Are you strolling in Geneva, Switzerland, obviously looking for something to eat or drink? Here’s a crisp list of the five spots that hold a special place in my heart.
In the spirit of supporting local businesses.
El Baraka
For kebab.
“Avec poulet, avec tout.” Are these the only French words I ever learnt really? They were easily the ones I ever used really. So get the baguette (yes, a loaf) stuffed with chicken or lamb plus all the veggies – including french fries, just in case you think they’re not vegetables.
El Baraka Restaurant Genève
Rue des Deux-Ponts 18, 1205 Geneva, Switzerland
Le Thé
For dim sum.
This restaurant, tiny and cluttered with tea pots, is the best dim sum place in the whole wide world. Save yourself some time and money from flying to Hong Kong. Spend all this time and money on tea and dumplings right here instead. Don’t be fooled by the unattractive exterior and the blurry image in this article; the treasures are safely kept inside the temple.
Le Thé
Rue des Bains 65, 1205 Geneva, Switzerland
Atelier Cocktail Club
For cocktails.
You open the door, and the scent of fresh fruit hits you. Am I in the tropics? This is the place to be if you’re looking for delicious cocktails, some bartender action, and international mingling. Take something with rum and passion fruit to feel like a real pirate of the Caribbean.
Atelier Cocktail Club
Rue Henri-Blanvalet 11, 1207 Geneva, Switzerland
Pizzeria Calabria Scalea
For pizza and pasta.
So this Italian friend from Puglia kept telling me about that place where the food felt like home. I tried and never went back. I appreciated the gigantic pizzas at good prices, the fresh and fragrant ingredients that made a difference to the taste, and the loyal guests that knew why they kept coming back.
Pizzeria Calabria Scalea
Quai du Cheval-Blanc 23, 1227 Geneva, Switzerland
Boréal
For coffee.
To be fair, this is not a place you wouldn’t be able to discover yourself. It’s the little café gone big with more and more shops popping up in different locations in both Geneva and Zurich. Still, if you fancy that Starbucks feeling without being at Starbucks, you’ll love Boréal. Also, definitely go for that blueberry muffin filled with cream cheese (do they still have these?).
Boréal Coffee Shop Stand
